Excelso part II

Had a bad day in Ubud, I took my best friend Indah hanging around to Denpasar, killing time for fresh breathing from the sorrow and tried to gain plenty of joys feeling back home..

As one of my favorites, I went to Excelso again and again… ( yeah chocolate plus coffee always works to me, it sounds like the combination of “theobromine” from the coffee and “phenyl ethylamine” from the chocolate flowing to my blood, turned my eyes on for 24 hours nonstop, felt happy and loved, oohhh chocolate syndromes… ) ce’st magnifique…

PS : at above picture was me and my best friend Indah, miss U girl… ( quite funny wasn’t it, I captured this picture at the same time she took herself one, the result was… the silly and funniest picture of mine as above… )

The Excelso Cafe

Yup, the journey wasn’t end yet. Had 5 fingers pizza ( ooohhhhhh overloaded! too luscious too disregard, the result was : a big stomach rode to Kuta, it made me so sleepy… ohhh what a bad habit…!!! ). Met a friend with a cheerfull chit_chat makes the ambience so attractively hosted, moreover with eye-catching glittered highheel I wore, yyyiiiiiiiiipppppppppppiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ( unfortunately U can’t see it on the picture as I just took the foods only hihihihihi…; ) not a big deal lah… )

Sat down on a comfort sofa in a very cozy place with yuuuummmmyyyy meals I”ve ordered, opppsss my eyes and mind got hungry before it should be ring the bell, whereas my stomach oohhooohhooooo just looks like a little budha… huhp…

Here it were… the appetite salads… yummy pastas… luscious mocktail… triple deckers… basket of assorted sausages, french fries and fried meatballs… and hhhhhhmmmm delicate choco gelato fullcream dessert with red-dilicious cherry on top…. Just PERFECTO….!!!

Pizza Hut getting hOt..

Once upon a time, I took one of my best friends to Denpasar and furthermore to Kuta area, simply hanging around for a mind refreshed after abundant tasks from the lectures… huhp…

As youngsters ( yes I was… noted in 2005… ooopppss :p ) we snatched for an updating fashionate style by visiting a mall ( doesn’t really matter about how it was.. as I forgot what dresses I’ve bought, not so important either )

After having enough with the shopping appetites, my stomach started to ring a call for yummy light foods and of course tasty cool sweet drinks as walking around the mall made me totally exhausted. For the easiest and fastest way to get re-energized, I came up to the master pizza maker i.e Pizza Hut just for a quick light lunch as I didn’t want to have too much foody bloody food since I had a dinner appointment at Excelso DFA, it weird, wasn’t it???!! Excelso is a kind of coffee shop which is great for luncheon time and tea time; however an invitation must be appreciated, isn’t it?!!! Yes, it is…

Here it was a huge fingers pizza for two… hhhhmmmmm encouraged my appetite then…

Breadtalk Bakery

It’s cool when we can express how we feel just by breads, it’ sound like that the bread could talk and simply show about what’s going on around… Fantastic…

Anyway… I just passing by the crowded town of Kuta last time and stopped at Centro just for quick break of shopping with my beloved ex-boyfriend who has become my husband now : ) … yet had the shopping I’ve stocked at the Breadtalk breads counter which smelt so goooooddd ( yes it was… it made my nose hacking… ooppppss just joking ;p )

I just can’t say no for this… especially the one with the sunflower seeds as above picture, one of my favorite… hhhmmmm yuuuuummmmyyyyy… nyam…nyam…

Hu'u Bar

Hu'u bar is located on Jl. Petitenget and has gained a reputation among the expat crowd as a cool place to hang out. Situated between Pura Petitenget and Venue @ The Moon, Hu'u bar feels like a clone of Ku De Ta, complete with mini-pool and cool-boy dècor. The whole joint is set under a large natural wood roof, with a large central bar. Serves quite lot of food varieties i.e spring rolls and other snacks... It is nice to have something with your beer.

La Luciola Seminyak

The Frommer’s call it “a place to see and be seen” but I prefer to call it a cuisine sanctuary. If you want to have a lunch without any hullabaloo of the Kuta’s crowd while still have the opportunity to enjoy the enchanted view of the beach and a nice breeze without any unnecessary obstruction from a structure called “wall”, La Lucciola is just the place for it. La Lucciola is on walking distance from Hotel Oberoi, but for visitor with vehicle, the parking area appears reasonably safe for such a public area, as security guards abound! After crossing the canal by an old wooden bridge, you are at the La Lucciola Beach Club! Strolling along the stone path, in the midst of the well-manicured grounds, you wind your way around to the restaurant’s front entrance. For lunch then you will also be faced with the rear view of a line of deck chairs from those enjoying their sun & surf, as well as a little sustenance, on the beach.

La Lucciola is perched right on the edge of the beach. An enormous open, thatch-roofed building, with dining on two levels. The upstairs section has a nice breeze that is almost inevitable. The large bamboo furniture seems to suit the place and the occasion.

For lunch a variety of entrees, very mixed in origin and style, often suffice for a pleasant and relaxing meal. A pair of King Prawns with thin chips of Sweet Potato stuck all over them, always remind me of Sydney’s Thai chef, Prasit, and his famous king prawn and taro dish. Maybe there is a connection. A Meze is a touch of Greece. Italian-style pastas abound, as well as a variety of salads from many origins. The Chicken and soba noodle salad, with a soy and sesame dressing, a perfect light snack.

The Galungan Day

Indonesia is the land of diverse religions and cultures. So it is very obvious that the calendar of events of Indonesia will be equally colorful and diversified. The Galungan Festival in Indonesia is one of the major festivals here. This festival is the most important festival for Balinese. The Galungan Festival symbolizes the victory of Dharma (Virtue) upon Adharma (Evil), filled with cultural rites and ceremonies.

The Galungan Festival is held in Bali. Galungan Day signifies "Pawedalan Jagat" or the earth's festival ceremony. On the eve of Galungan Festival the Hindus thank God for his creations on earth and its content. On this day the Hindus express their gratitude to God and invite him to come down to earth and join in their celebrations. The Galungan Festival goes on for 10 days. At some Balinese festivals the images of the Gods as well as the thrones they sit on are carried down to the sea where they are given a ceremonial bath. The Galungan Festival has a mythological reference. There was a cruel king called Mayadenawa. The death of the King Mayadenawa is the victory of the good (Dharma) upon evil (Adharma). This victory day is celebrated every six months (6x35 days=210 days), which is called Galungan Day. It is called Galungan, probably because it is celebrated on wuku Galungan (based on the Balinese calendar), and so does Kuningan Day that falls on wuku Kuningan. Galungan Day is celebrated every Budha Kliwon Dungulan. One of the essential commodities for Galungan Festival is Penjor. Penjor is made of a long bamboo pole with its curved end, and decorated with rice paddies, corn on the cob, coconut, cakes, a piece of white or yellow cloth, etc. Penjor is usually built on Penampahan Galungan (a day before the Galungan Day). It is symbolizes Mount Agung and gratitude for the agricultural produce. Mount Agung is the symbol of holiness as a connection to Mount Semeru, Mount Himalaya, or Mahameru, which is believed as the place where Bhatara Putra Jaya stays. There are different stages in Galungan Festival and each element has its own symbolization.

The Galungan Festival is a religious festival here. Though it is a festival of the Hindus, the participation of people from various castes is really noticeable. Do, come in this festival. You will certainly enjoy it.

Gemala Silver Jewelry

Gemala Silver Jewelry has created a unique niche in Bali by combining traditional smithing of precious metals, modern production facilities and state-of-the-art design and
communications technology.

‘Gemala’ is an Indonesian word meaning ‘magic stone’. The name blends the concepts of the stones we love to work with and the sacred Hindu Bali prayer beads, or mala.

Bodywork Centre

At Bodyworks there are many levels of healing. Genuine touch itself is healing. When the loving touch is combined with skill and techniques of massage, it can bring physical and inner wellbeing. Ketut Arsana, as a Mahatma Therapist, gives his students (staff) guidance to help develop their skills and abilities. These students try to learn and capture his teachings of massage and personal growth.
Ketut Arsana sees all who enter the gateway to Bodyworks, whether it be his staff or clients, as people to be touched with his loving care.
By entering Bodyworks, the healing has already begun. When healing ourselves there are many levels – physical, mental and spiritual.
The process of healing is often a long journey. Healing flows through the body to reach the source of problems within ourselves and society.

Get dirty at Bebek Bengil

Bebek Bengil ( Dirty Duck Diner ) was first opened in 1990. Since then we have been serving delicious foods and providing good services in a friendly, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

Many people have asked us how we got the name 'Bebek Bengil',well here's the story..

When we were building the restaurant, we thought long and hard about a name. Many good suggestions came from our friends, but none seemed just right.

We knew we wanted a Balinese name that translated well into English. However, for a long time the metaphor eluded us.

One tropical monsoon morning, when the restaurant was very close to being finished ( we had the concrete floor down, and the tables in ), a flock of ducks from the rice field across the road ( yes, there were rice fields all around us then ) ran quacking and squawking into the restaurant and across the floor and tables. They left muddy webbed footprints all over the place. They were our first guests - those dirty ducks !

Lunch at Ibu Oka

Ibu Oka warung is an open-air restaurant located smack in the middle of Ubud town. Squeezed in between Ubud’s central banjar and Jl. Suweta’s upmarket shops and restaurants stands the legendary Ibu Oka’s Warung Babi Guling. The food stall has stood here for the past 20 years, serving up what many say is some of the best roast suckling pig on Bali.

And they are all digging in to Ibu Oka’s classic Balinese tucker: melt-in-the-mouth suckling pig that was spit-roasted for five hours before being carted on foot from Ibu Oka’s home kitchen and served hot and fresh to the waiting hordes. Within minutes after it opens its doors, the restaurant is full to overflowing. Every table refills as soon as the early bird diners lick their lips is satisfaction before heading back to work, shopping or wandering Ubud’s central market.

Dine at Lotus Cafe

Located on Ubud’s Main Road (Jalan Raya), right in the center of town, is our most spectacular restaurant: Cafe Lotus.

The setting is magnificent even by Balinese standards: a large lotus pond framed by ancient flowering trees with one of Ubud's main temple complex, Pura Taman Kemuda Saraswati, serving as a backdrop. One of the longest established restaurants in Ubud, it was taken over and upgraded by Lotus in 1990.

The restaurant’s ambience has been preserved and enhanced with themes and flavors of the Lotus Restaurant concept. Here you can also dine the Asian way, seated on bamboo mats, overlooking lotus flowers in bloom, and 5 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) you can dine while watching performances of traditional Balinese dances and gamelan orchestras. At other times you may hear musicians in practice or witness one of Ubud’s frequent temple ceremonies in progress. Surely, all this will make your visit an unforgettable experience.

Cafe Lotus has become a landmark in Ubud, the center of Balinese culture, and it comes highly recommended by guidebooks worldwide. The Cafe continues to be our most spectacular restaurant and it deserves to be included on your next visit. You will prove us right!
